About the Tutor

My name is Ariana Littauer, and I’ve always loved learning and sharing the joy of discovery and the thrill of a challenge with others. I find that the more a student can relate his or her own passions and experiences to a subject, the more that subject’s material becomes a part of the student, rather than stale information to be memorized and forgotten. My goal, therefore, is to engage those I tutor, not merely to instruct.

I’m currently working as a screenwriter in North Hollywood and tutoring in my spare time because I truly love teaching. One of my favorite college professors swore I would end up teaching someday; fortunately, I knew not to bet against her!

Education and Honors:

Graduated from Pomona College in 2006 Cum Laude with a B.A. degree in English and minors in Linguistics and Media Studies. GPA of 3.81. Dean’s List every semester. Selected for Phi Beta Kappa membership.

High school: The Winsor School, Boston, MA. 2002 National Merit Semi-Finalist. SAT Scores: Verbal 800 (out of 800), Math 660 (/800). SAT II French: 730 (/800). AP Exam: English Language and Composition: 5 (/5).

Experience:

For 3 years at Pomona, I worked as a Writing Fellow, tutoring other students in all aspects of expository, persuasive, and creative writing, including grammar, usage, vocabulary, style, and structure. Writing Fellows are recommended by professors and are paid for their services. During my Senior year of college, I completed a teaching internship with a professor, assisting in teaching a core course for incoming freshmen.

I’ve worked with elementary, middle, and high school students on their current classwork, with special focus on areas that present a personal challenge. I’ve prepared high school students for the SAT Critical Reading and Writing Skills sections, as well as guided them as they composed their college application essays. I’ve aided kindergarteners and 1st graders with their literacy and reading comprehension. Beyond standard tutoring, I have designed curriculum for and privately taught supplementary and advanced English courses for elementary, middle, and high school students.

I teach English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), and I have worked with more advanced English language learners on their pronunciation and conversation.

I am passionate, enthusiastic, and patient, and I would love to work with you!
